A Tunnel of Cherry Blossoms — One of the Finest Hanami Spots in the Chugoku Region




Recognized as one of the "Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots in Japan," this is one of the most celebrated hanami locations in the Chugoku region.
From late March to early April, a stunning 2-kilometer-long tunnel of cherry blossoms forms along the Hiikawa River, famously tied to the legend of Yamata-no-Orochi.
During the Sakura Festival, around 800 Somei Yoshino cherry trees bloom in full glory along the riverbank, with numerous food stalls adding to the festive atmosphere.At night, the illuminated cherry blossom tunnel takes on a magical charm, with traditional lanterns (bonbori) casting a gentle glow over the blossoms—perfect for an atmospheric evening stroll.
