The "Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Art", located in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, is a contemporary art museum featuring an experiential type of exhibition. It consists of a paid exhibition zone where you can watch popular art works such as Swimming Pool and other exhibitions that change every period, and a free exchange zone where you can enjoy without tickets. In addition to art works, there are also cafe restaurants and museum shops in the exchange zone.

We will introduce access to the "Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Art", which features an experience-type exhibition that is easy for beginners to get familiar with.
There are many buses in Kanazawa City, so when you arrive at Kanazawa Station, first head to the No. 3 Noribaka No. 7 stop at the JR Kanazawa Station Bus Terminal and Kenrokuen Exit (East Exit). For the 3rd stop, it is 11 minutes for the Hokutetsu Line bus bound for Honda-machi (excluding the rapid), for the 7th stop, it is 17 minutes for the right-hand route of the ''Castle Town Kanazawa Shuyu Bus'' bus stop Hirosaka 21st Century Museum (in front of Ishiura Shrine) arrive in. As soon as you get off the bus, you can see the Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Art, whose outer walls are glazed all over and white.
How to make a reservation on the day of the swimming pool
At the Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Art, the most popular work called "Swimming Pool" (Leandro Erlich/2004), which allows you to experience as if you are in a pool, is also a topic on SNS. I wonder if there are many people who want to go to the Kanazawa 21st Century Museum to see the swimming pool. We introduce how to take recommended photos from how to book such a swimming pool.
The Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Art consists of a free "interchange zone" (outdoor/indoor) and an "exhibition zone" (indoor), which requires a paid entry ticket. There is a swimming pool in the exhibition zone, and there is an indoor exchange zone around the exhibition zone. There is no entrance fee for the museum building itself, but only the entrance of the exhibition zone requires a separate exhibition viewing ticket. And outdoor like the park is also an exchange zone. In summary, the swimming pool is an exhibition zone, so if you want to watch it, you will need a paid ticket.
Swimming poolersAground part
There are two ways of viewing the swimming pool: the above-ground part where you can see the rippling water surface from above, and the underground part where you are in the pool. If you are going to appreciate the above-ground part, you can only appreciate it with a ticket for the exhibition zone, so if you have a ticket for the exhibition zone, you don't need a reservation.
If you want to take a picture as if you are in the pool or if you want to experience it, you will appreciate the underground part, but since this is very popular, it is mandatory to make a reservation on the day (previously it was possible to make a reservation in advance, as of February 2025, it is reserved on the same day only).
Then I will explain how to make a reservation.
In order to enter the underground part, it is necessary to purchase a ticket for the exhibition, and to reserve waiting for the entry. In the above-ground part, only purchase a ticket for the exhibition is OK.
(1)Purchase of tickets for the exhibition Although it can be purchased at the "general information and ticket sales" in the hall on the same day, it is necessary to line up for ticket purchase, so it is recommended to purchase a web ticket (specified time and date) from the official site in advance.
In the exhibition zone, you can see four permanent exhibition works, including the swimming pool, and the exhibition that will change every period, so the amount of tickets for each exhibition will vary. There are two types of tickets, a special exhibition and a collection exhibition, and if you purchase one of them, you can view the swimming pool (Reservation for (2) is also required), so be sure to purchase. If it is a ticket for a special exhibition, the collection exhibition can also be entered, so if you get lost, it is a special exhibition! * There is also a common ticket of a set of collection exhibition and a viewing ticket of Kanazawa Noh Museum of Art ・ Common ticket with Kanazawa Noh Museum of Art (only collection exhibitions can be viewed at Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Art, sold on the day in the hall or at the Noh Museum of Art) 570 yen for general, 480 yen for college students, 530 yen for ages 65 and older, free for high school students and under
Especially during weekends and consecutive holidays, the same-day ticket sales window will be more crowded, so let's buy tickets in advance from the official site of the Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Art, except for the common ticket with the Kanazawa Noh Museum.
Ticket purchase is recommended in advance, but if the same-day window sale ticket is good, please line up at 9:30 to 30 minutes before closing.
(2)Reservation waiting for admission If you can buy a ticket of (1), this is also required. In the past, in addition to waiting reservations on the day, advance reservations could be made on the web, but as of February 2025, only waiting reservations can be made on the day of the web reservation or at the in-house reservation machine.
From 9:00 to 17:30 on the day of the visit (Friday and Saturday at 19:30), you can make a reservation waiting on the day from the official site. There is a detailed input method with video on the official website, so please check that. * You can check the call's indication time after the reservation is completed.
You can also make a waiting reservation on the day at the hotel reservation machine. Reservations can be made by operating the reservation machine installed in the general information (Kanazawa 21st Century Art Museum has four entrances and exits, but it is recommended to start from here) at the Honda Street entrance. * If you read the two-dimensional bar code printed on the paper output after the reservation, you can check the standard time of the call.
Viewing time is within 5 minutes! How to take recommended photos
I think I 've figured out how to make a ticket or book to appreciate, so next time I'll show you how to take a recommended photo.
Once you enter the basement from this entrance at the reservation time, the stay time is within 5 minutes. Limited time, so I don't have much time to think about making up pictures! 5 minutes is a flash, so let's take a photo immediately with reference to the poses introduced this time♪
Of course, we recommend a photo of a single background that does not show people, but I think there are many people who want to take a photo reflected in the memorial, so I will introduce it with a photo main with people. First of all, a composition that captures the whole by grabbing the handrail by hand is recommended. It is NG to grab the railing and jump and raise your feet, so let's take care of the surroundings.
If you like a simple pose, but you can't think of a pose too much... it may be a good idea to take a picture like standing in the middle and turning around. I also recommend a vertical photo that reflects to the surface of the water.
If you are reaching for the railing, it is recommended for those who watch alone because you can take pictures by yourself.
There's still a twist on the railing pose! A composition that looks like you're trying to get out of the pool by grabbing the railing.
A composition to grab the railing at the bottom and take it. I was able to shoot it on a nice day, so the sunshine plugged in nicely, and it looks like I'm in the water.
The railing is not free! In such a case, even if you just stand along the wall side, the atmosphere will come out OK!
And the happy point when you're in the underground part. I had a hand shake from the above ground part! The picture when I waved my hand back is also good.
And not only the underground part, but also the above-ground part can be taken in various compositions. There is no time limit for the above-ground part, so you can watch it slowly.
It is interesting to be a different sight depending on the place.
I tried to shoot the whole thing.
Looking into the underground part is also interesting because it looks like there are people in the pool.
It is necessary to check the pool-like creation in detail.
I think there are many other compositions, so please think in advance before you go, and if there is someone to go with you, discuss with the other party and decide. * The above-ground part is closed in rainy weather. You can enter the basement from Exhibition Room 6.
How to enjoy the paid exhibition zone
Advancing to the Glass Hallway of the Green Bridges (Patrick Blanc/2004)
The paid exhibition zone is a zone where you can admire four permanent works and exhibitions that change every period. One is about 13 meters long, in addition to the swimming pool introduced in the previous chapter, there is a green bridge (Patrick Bran/2004), which is covered with about 100 different plants suitable for the climate of Kanazawa on a wall about 5 meters high. The flowers that bloom depending on the season are different, so be sure to cross the corridor and admire the plants. * A ticket is not required when viewing from the exchange zone.
The other two are "You Play Yourself" (Pipilotti Rist/2004), "L'Origine du mondeWeek (Anish Kapoor/2004). This is a shooting ban, so please look at it with your eyes and enjoy it.
How to enjoy the free exchange zone
In the "Rabbit Chair", a photo shoot with a rabbit pose is recommended
Free exchange zones that you can enjoy without tickets are available both indoors and outdoors. In addition to art works indoors, there is also a cafe restaurant and a museum shop, so we will introduce you from the next chapter. Here we introduce art and how to enjoy the exchange zone.
First of all, this indoor is the "Rabbit Chair" by the unit "Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa/SANAA" designed for the Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Art. It is very popular, and it is a chair that can be enjoyed as art. It is also recommended to take pictures together.
This is also indoors. Citizen Gallery 2004.10.09-2005.03.21 (Michael Lin/2004). The author, who studied Kaga Yuzen in Kanazawa, designs the walls of the rest corner with vivid floral patterns. The rocking chairs in front are designed by SANAA as well as the previous rabbit chair, and have the same pattern as the wall.
It's nice to take a picture on this wall.♪
Next introduction to the outdoor. This is a futuristic metal chair with SANAA design. As you can see from the photos, there are many chairs at the Kanazawa 21st Century Museum, so you can enjoy the art while taking a good time off.
This is a work called Maru (SANAA/2016). The pavilion, shaped like 16 spheres of 1.8m diameter joined together, was built by SANAA to mark the 10th anniversary of its opening. It is interesting that the scenery around is reflected like a fish eye lens! * It is not a permanent exhibition work.
This is a work called “Crankfeld Number 3” for the arena (Florian Claar/2004). An object with a wide open mouth like a trumpet is set in two, but the next door is not necessarily a pair! If you make a voice on the one hand, try to play because it's fun to hear from the other.
And since the man who measures the clouds (Jan Fabre/1998) is located near the center of the rooftop, you can also appreciate it from the interchange zone. It is a bronze statue of a man holding a ruler toward the sky, and is being produced by an author inspired by an American film from about 60 years ago.
Photographs are taken from the exhibition zone, but of course you can also check from the exchange zone. Because the angle that you see varies depending on the location, the work you want to see from various places.
There are other art works in the exchange zone, so please look forward to the day!
Recommended menu of cafe-restaurant Fusion21
Appetizers for "Fusion Lunch"
The "Cafe Restaurant Fusion 21", located in the free exchange zone, offers lunch and sweets with plenty of seasonal, local produce.
Especially when you come to the cafe restaurant Fusion 21 at 11-14 lunchtime, you can't miss a set with an appetizer plate and a salad, soup and bread buffet with plenty of Kaga vegetables and seasonal ingredients in addition to the main dishes. Therefore, there is a single item menu, but three types of sets "Fusion Lunch", "Chef's Lunch" and "Noto Beef Steak Lunch" are recommended. The appetizers are served on a plate that looks like a palette of paints. It's a cafe restaurant in the Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Art, so there's a sense of how you can feel art in this kind of part.
The salad, bread, soup buffet can be used as many times as you want! Because it is a whole glass, you can enjoy cooking while feeling the permanent display in the open air.
You can choose between daily pasta and a rice plate for the main dish, but the days we covered it were "Tuna and Mushroom Oil Sauce Pasta," "Prosciutto and Eggplant Tomato Sauce Pasta," and "Noto Beef Croquette Curry." this time we choose "Prosciutto and Eggplant Tomato Sauce Pasta". Prosciutto and eggplant were served in a good balance, and the volume was perfect.
In addition, we also recommend a dessert called "Mottainai Parfait" 900 yen. As the name suggests, the gelato made from fresh raw milk from Noto Peninsula and the grape skin of Noto Wine was rich and delicious to teach.

"Museum Shop Original Pinbatch" 660 yen * Sakosh in the photo is sold separately
