It was opened in 1983 in the spirit of the founding "to exhibit only mountain paintings at the foot of the mountains in the Northern Alps". Mountain painting is a distinction from landscape painting, which is drawn from the foot of the mountain or from the flatlands, with a campus standing at or near the top of the mountain. The number of works drawn by stepping on the deep snow and committing himself to Zile overwhelms the viewer. Exhibited works of oil paintings, drawings, and prints by Japan's leading mountain painters, such as Genichiro Adachi and Hiroshi Yoshida, pioneers of modern mountain painting, who are thorough in field sketches. In addition to planning exhibitions of about four to five times a year, a drawing workshop for elementary school students, and a mountain coloring workshop for the general public, a night museum concert is also held. A café terrace is also attached.
