Mount Shiga Climbing Course

A walking course representing Shiga Kogen. Over beautiful landscapes in order of Mount Shiga, which has a view of the rare floating islands, and Mount Shiga, which overlooks the primeval forest of Onuma Pond, forty-eight ponds whose ponds are dotted like terraced fields, and Onuma ponds, which poke cobalt blue water. Shiga Kogen Hiking Nature Exploration Course

An introductory course of nature observation hiking. You can fully enjoy the nature of Shiga Kogen, which changes with ponds, moors, and primeval forests, such as Nagaike and Triangle Pond, where wild birds can be heard, and Tanohara Moor, known for its cotton sedge, and the adjacent Kido Pond. Shiga Kogen Hiking Sunshine Rail Water Water Pond Course

The Shiga Kogen Nature Conservation Center is located near the starting point, so you can start after getting the highlights of the walk and knowledge of the plateau. Around the shores of Biwa Pond, surrounded by birch forests, there is a cavalcade of wet plants. The water-free pond is a place of silence. The road is paved around Biwa Pond and wheelchair traffic is possible. There is also a mountain climbing route to Mount Asahi (1524m). A total length of 3.9km and a journey of 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Shiga Kogen Hiking Higashiyama Sky Course

Ride a gondola lift and visit the Higashiyama Alpine Botanical Garden course. Even people who are not confident in their physical strength are relieved. During the July-October season, you can meet dainty alpine plants whenever you visit. Enjoy a refreshingly aerial walk. Course: Hatsuho Onsen (6 minutes gondola lift) to Higashiyama Observation Deck. Shiga Kogen central area "Sun Valley, Maruike, Hasuike Ski Area"

Sun Valley Ski Area is the gateway when you enter Shiga Kogen by the Shiga Kusatsu Kogen route from Shinshu Nakano IC. The Maruike Ski Area, which extends to the western side of the upper Sun Valley, is the first ski area in Japan to have a lift, and a long-established hotel stands at the base. The Hasuike Ski Area, located in the depths of Maruike, is for beginners with the center of the slope. There is a kids piste in Maruike and the whole family is popular.

Shiga Kogen General Assembly 98

The tourist base of Shiga Kogen, located near Hasuike. The Shiga Kogen Nature Conservation Center, Shiga Kogen Guide Union, Nagano Prefecture (telephone 0269-34-2133) in the building introduces animals such as antelope and alpine plants that inhabit the area, as well as the history of Shiga Kogen development. The guide treks conducted by the guide union have been well received. The torch of the torch relay and gold, silver and bronze medals are displayed at the Nagano Olympic and Paralympic Games Memorial Hall.

Shiga Natural Education Garden, Shinshu University

A research facility at Shinshu University that is also open to the public. It uses a corner of the primeval forest at the foot of Mount Shiga, which is designated as a special reserve in the national park. The park is filled with wild animals such as the antelope, the special natural monument antelope, the dormouse, and the raccoon dog. A rock garden with about 50 species of alpine plants and a nature observation route have also been developed, so that you can enjoy learning about the nature of Shiga Kogen.

Maruike

Maruike, located near the entrance of Shiga Kogen, is one of the lakes scattered in Shiga Kogen, including Biwa Pond, and Lotus Pond. It is a beautiful pond where you can enjoy boating at an altitude of about 1500m. The Maruike Ski Area and the Shiga Kogen Sun Valley Ski Area are located in the immediate vicinity, along with some accommodations. It is surrounded by hardwood trees such as rowan, dake birch and maple, so the autumn leaves are fine in mid-October.

Lotus Pond

Located in the center of Shiga Kogen, the lakeside bus terminal serves as a branch point in the direction of Kumanoyu and Yokote, and in the direction of Hakuka and Okushiga. Also nearby is the "Shiga Kogen General Assembly 98", which houses the Shiga Kogen Tourism Association, a nature conservation center and a guide union, where tourist information can be used.

Tomi Noyu

A hot spring facility attached to the Hotel Serang, which stands under the Kitashiga Yosase Ski Area. There is no inner water, but the large panorama of Hokushinshu, which is seen from a spacious, single-sex outdoor bath, is a masterpiece. The open-air bath is part of Higashiya, so you can feel safe even on rainy or snowy days. Two adjacent Shinano and Chikuma free-section open-air baths (rate: 2500 yen for 50 minutes, question: Hotel Seran, telephone: 0269-33-1111) are also available.
