What is the Yamaguchi Yume Corridor?
In 2017, seven municipalities\u2014Yamaguchi City, Ube City, Hagi City, Hofu City, Mine City, Sanyo-Onoda City, and Tsuwano Town in Shimane Prefecture\u2014formed the \u201cYamaguchi Central Coordinated Urban Area\u201d based on the national policy for coordinated urban region development.
The region is promoting initiatives to generate further vitality and improve livability across the entire area, while also sharing information on regional events, tourism, history, and culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Ube City<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The northern area is rich in natural landscapes, while the southern area faces the calm Seto Inland Sea.
Yamaguchi Ube Airport, the gateway to Yamaguchi Prefecture, is located here, and Tokiwa Park\u2014famous as a tourist spot adorned with seasonal flowers throughout the year\u2014is also well known.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tokiwa Park<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A comprehensive park centered around the vast Tokiwa Lake, adorned with greenery, flowers, and outdoor sculptures.
In addition to being a cherished place of relaxation for local residents with facilities such as an amusement park, zoo, botanical garden, and coal mining museum, it has also been selected as one of Japan\u2019s Top 100 Urban Parks and Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots.

Ube Ramen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The aroma of the soup, made by simmering pork bones for a long time, is distinctive and affectionately known by fans as \u201ckusau-ma\u201d (smelly but delicious). At the well-known local shop \u201cIkkyu,\u201d souvenir versions are also available for purchase.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Hagi City<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A birthplace of the Meiji Restoration in motion. Numerous historical sites from the late Edo period through the Meiji Restoration are scattered throughout the area, including places associated with restoration leaders such as Yoshida Sh\u014din and Takasugi Shinsaku, as well as spots registered as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choshu Seafood Mabushi<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A local specialty that lets you enjoy fresh local seafood through three stages of flavor changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, enjoy the seafood rice bowl topped with seasonal seafood as it is, then add condiments for a change of flavor, and finally pour in dashi to finish it as a dashi chazuke. The seafood fritters served on the side are also one of its highlights.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Bookstore & Hair Salon<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is the second location of a shop created by the expression-focused trading company Atashi-sha, combining a hair salon and a curated bookstore. Located in Hamasaki, a nationally designated Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings lined with townhouses and storehouses, it makes use of a former flower shop built in the Meiji era.
The shop also sells lifestyle goods and operates a caf\u00e9. Exploring the surrounding area is also recommended.

Hofu City<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A historic town that flourished from ancient times as the provincial capital of Su\u014d and developed as a key transportation hub. Today, it has grown into an industrial city with a strong manufacturing base, including a concentration of transport machinery and equipment manufacturers, and boasts a high value of manufactured goods shipments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hofu Keirin Velodrome<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Opened in 1949, this is the oldest keirin velodrome in the Chugoku region. Renovated in 2024, it now features a newly created KEIRIN Park with attractions such as a fluffy dome and a pump track, making it enjoyable for families as well.

Mebaru-yaki<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sold at the Shiosai Market in \u201cMebaru Park,\u201d a beloved local relaxation spot, this is not the familiar taiyaki but a unique \u201cmebaru-yaki.\u201d Featuring distinctive large eyes, it measures about 12 cm in length and comes in three flavors: red bean paste, custard cream, and chocolate cream.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Mine City<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In 2008, the former Mine City merged with Mito Town and Akiyoshi Town. The area is home to Akiyoshidai, one of Japan\u2019s largest karst plateaus, and Akiyoshido Cave, one of the most prominent limestone caves in East Asia. In 2015, the entire area was certified as the \u201cMine Akiyoshidai Geopark.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This miso-flavored hormone dish looks and sounds delicious. The name comes from the way miners grilled and ate hormone meat on their shovels, which were always close at hand.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Beppu Benten Pond<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Beppu Benten Pond
A pond located within the grounds of Beppu Itsukushima Shrine, selected as one of Japan\u2019s Top 100 Famous Waters. Although it is about 4 meters deep, the water is so clear that the bottom is visible, captivating visitors with its mystical emerald-like color. The spring water is drinkable and is said to grant longevity.

Tsuwano Town<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Located at the western edge of Shimane Prefecture, Tsuwano is known as the \u201cLittle Kyoto of San\u2019in.\u201d It is rich in historic buildings while also blessed with abundant nature, as well as agricultural products such as wasabi and taro, and river delicacies including ayu sweetfish and tsugani crabs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the first floor caf\u00e9, dishes are served using abundant local ingredients from Tsuwano as well as Shimane and Yamaguchi. A recommended item is the wasabi bowl, an original menu made with locally harvested natural wasabi. Its refreshing flavor overturns the common notion that wasabi is simply spicy.
