City Overview

Saga Prefecture is known for the site of the Yoshinogari site of a large settlement from the Yayoi period. During the Edo period, Saga Domain promoted the development of science and technology and contributed to the modernization, including building a reverberatory furnace, which was the first in Japan to be put into practical use. There are famous baths such as Takeo Onsen and Ureshino Onsen, which are also popular as tourist destinations. In addition, the production of beautiful ceramics, such as Arita ware, Imari ware and Karatsu ware, continues. Karatsu Kunchi attracts many tourists with its gorgeous Hikiyama traditional events that tour the town.
