江戸中期に日照りや干魃が続き作物がとれず、村に疫病が流行し多くの人が亡くなった。この惨状を見た、時の殿様が悪魔払いのために獅子頭3頭を奉納したのが始まり。現在は祭典行事として、春祭りには日枝神社にて奉納後、村内廻りが行われる。
