Recognized as one of the world’s top three dinosaur museums, the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum reopened in July 2023 after extensive renovations; its iconic silver dome houses a vast 4,500㎡ permanent exhibition hall divided into three zones—“The World of Dinosaurs,” “The Science of the Earth,” and “The History of Life”—featuring fossils of six newly discovered dinosaur species from Fukui, 50 full-body dinosaur skeletons, over a thousand specimens, large-scale dioramas, and immersive video displays, allowing visitors to experience 4.6 billion years of Earth’s history; in April 2024, the museum opened the Outdoor Dinosaur Museum, located at Japan’s largest dinosaur fossil excavation site, where guests can join fossil-hunting experiences and may even discover fossils themselves; for lunch, the museum restaurant offers fun dinosaur-themed meals like curry, omurice, and desserts.

On the second day, let’s meet the marine creatures of the Sea of Japan! Popular experiences include feeding Echizen crabs and sea turtles, playing in the “Splashing Seawater Pool” with around 1,000 fish of 20 different species, interacting with seals, and watching the adorable penguin parade as they waddle along. In spring 2024, the “Giant Pacific Octopus Hall” opened—the first exhibit in Japan specializing in the world’s largest octopus species found north of Hokuriku. You can observe baby octopuses and even touch a gigantic one—an unforgettable experience!

In March 2024, one of Japan’s largest dinosaur attractions, “Dinosaur Forest,” opened. Step into the 26,000㎡ forest and encounter over 60 dinosaurs from 30 species—including new species discovered in Fukui.
