
The temple of the temple
It is located in a quiet residential area in Himonya, Meguro-ku. It is an ancient temple of the Tendai sect during the Heian period (853), when it is said to be a founding temple by Jikaku Daishi. Amida-do (main temple), Sakya-do, and Nioh-mon stand in the wide precincts. Shakado, a nationally designated important cultural property, is the oldest wooden structure in the 23 wards of Tokyo, and was built during the Muromachi period. It shows the beautiful roof lines of Irimoya-style in a graceful style that incorporates Japanese-style beauty in Tang-style architecture. The solemn and quiet precincts have an atmosphere that makes you want to join hands.
