The island of Sakushima in Mikawa Bay is a remote island in Nishio, known for its rich nature and art. A variety of art works are scattered around the island, and you can enjoy watching the art while walking. Scenery such as beautiful coastline and long-lying settlements is also one of the highlights. Let's enjoy Sakujima gourmet with plenty of grace of Mikawa Bay.
How to get to the remote island of Saku
Since Sakujima is a remote island, we will go to the island using a ferry from "Isshiki Port" in Nishio City. Let's check how to get there first.
It takes about two hours from Nagoya Station to Sakujima by public transport. First, head to Nishio Station, and from there, move to Isshiki Port. The liner from "Isshiki Port" is served seven flights a day, and stays at Sakujima's "West Port", then "East Port". The duration is 20-25 minutes. Depending on the spot you want to go around and the walking route, choose whether to disembark at West Port or East Port.
The onshore distance between West Port and East Port is approximately 2km, and can be moved by walking; or can also be rotated by bicycle rental.

Enjoy the island of art with a tour of the works on the island

Sakushima is called the island of art because there are 22 works on the island and two on the mainland (Isshiki Port), a total of 24 art works. Most of the works are outdoors, and they are located facing the sea or in a place where you can see the sea, so there is plenty of feeling of liberation. You can not only look at it, but also stand or sit on the work and play, so you can feel the art more familiar. The recommended works are "Ohirune House", "East House", and "Sakujima's Secret Base/Apollo". Let's enjoy the works that shine in the beautiful scenery of Saku Island.

In Sakujima, an "Art Picnic" is conducted throughout the year, which covers works on the island. When you get a map of the island and a stamp sheet at each of the ferry stations, collect stamps of the art works you stop by. It is up to me whether to start from West Port or East Port and finish, whether to go around all 24 works, and whether to look around only the works I care about. It takes about half a day to walk around the island and about two hours for a bicycle. If you want to go around efficiently, it is recommended to rent a bicycle at a shop near Seigang and Dongang.

Sakujima is a treasure house of fresh seafood. In addition to the octopus, large clams caught throughout the year, and the taste blue crab in early autumn, you can enjoy the blessings of the sea in Mikawa Bay. Not only boiled fish and sashimi, but also as a gourmet unique to Sakushima, let's taste large clam bowl, boiled octopus, and Konowata.
