Kitakami Exhibition Katsuchi Sakura Festival

Fireworks display to decorate the finale of the Kitakami and Michinoku performing arts festival. The performance with the 370-year-old "Trokko Sink", which is held at the same time as the fireworks, is attractive because of the contrast between the 10,000-light Trocks (lanterns) flowing along the river surface and the fireworks above. In addition, a different theme is set every year, and the comprehensive production of fireworks, music, and narration according to the theme can be said to be a feature of this fireworks festival. The annual summer festival in Kitakami, known as a treasure trove of folk performing arts. During the festival period, performing arts groups from both inside and outside the prefecture gather to compete in folk performances at various venues throughout the city. At the folk performing arts show held on the main street in front of the city hall, popular performances such as "Oni Kenbai" and "Shika Odori" can be enjoyed. Among them, the "Oni Kenbai Grand Dance" held on the second day at the festival square in front of the city hall, featuring over 100 dancers performing simultaneously, is truly spectacular. The finale is adorned with elaborate fireworks along the Kitakami River and the "Torokko Nagashi," which boasts a 370-year tradition.
