Experience the "Sacred Land of the Setting Sun, Izumo"from Japan's best lighthouse

Hinomisaki (Prefectural Route 29, Taisha-Hinomisaki Line) is currently operating with one-way alternating traffic on a temporary road in certain sections. However, all general vehicles, including large trucks, are permitted to pass.

Located approximately 20 minutes by car from Izumo Oyashiro Shrine, Hinomisaki Lighthouse stands as the tallest lighthouse in Japan, with a height of 63.30 meters above sea level and 43.65 meters from the ground to the top of the tower.
The stark white lighthouse contrasts beautifully against the blue sky, creating a striking visual.
At the top, there is an observation deck, offering a panoramic 360-degree view. From here, the vast Sea of Japan unfolds before your eyes, and on clear days, you may even catch a glimpse of the Oki Islands to the north. Looking south, you can admire the rolling mountain ranges stretching into the distance.
Situated at the westernmost tip of the Shimane Peninsula, at the edge of a cape extending into the Sea of Japan, the lighthouse is an ideal spot for viewing breathtaking sunsets. After dark, the twinkling lights of night fishing boats create a romantic atmosphere over the ocean.
Nearby, you’ll also find Kyojima, an island known as a breeding ground for black-tailed gulls, as well as dramatic rock formations and steep cliffs sculpted by the relentless waves of the Sea of Japan.
Hinomisaki Lighthouse has been selected as one of the "World's 100 Most Important Historical Lighthouses."
