Strolling | Scenic Natural Spots | Temples and Shrines | Tojinbo・Oshima・Mikuni Port Area

A mysterious island untouched by development, preserving pristine nature.
Floating offshore from Tojinbo, this small island measures 2 km in circumference and 27 meters in elevation—yet it is the largest island within the Echizen-Kaga Kaigan Quasi-National Park. Crossing a 224-meter vermilion bridge and climbing 78 stone steps, you’ll find Ominato Shrine quietly nestled at the end of the path.
Locals have long revered it as a "sacred island."
The entire island is covered with trees such as Japanese cinnamon (Yabu-nikkei) and Machilus (Tabu). Following the walking trail that circles the island, visitors can encounter rich natural beauty and a mysterious atmosphere. Along the roughly one-kilometer path, you’ll find century-old trees and sea-eroded cliffs—offering a different landscape from Tojinbo.
