Roadside Station Hanaka (Hana Nanohana) Koshimizu

Standing on a hill near Hama-Koshimizu Station on the JR Kushiro Main Line. From the pyramid-shaped observation deck, you can see the azure Okhotsk Sea and the Koshimizu primeval flower garden as well as far away as Shiretoko Renzan. You can also see the ice floe in the back of Shiretoko Renzan from February to March.

A native flower garden spread over the elongated sand dunes sandwiched between the Sea of Okhotsk and Lake Tofutsuko along National Route 244. In the flowering period from late May to September, about 70 kinds of wild flowers are in bloom and you can walk through the colorful flower garden. It is about mid-June to mid-July when typical flowers such as Ezoskasukuri, Ezokisedge, and Hamanas bloom.

A lagoon lake separated from the Sea of Okhotsk across a sandbar, which is also a Ramsar-registered wetland. "" is the Ainu word "toput", which refers to the mouth of the lake. The JR Kushiro Main Line and National Route 244 run above the sandbar, and the area between Hama-Oshimizu, where the Kōshimizu Primeval Garden is located, and Kitahama [Kitahama], where the Swan Park is located, is surrounded on both sides by the sea and lake, and many irises bloom in the summer on the lakeside. You can enjoy the view from the lake shore at Swan Park on the west end of the lake. There is a birdhouse and a lake water bird and wetland center, where whooper swans fly in from March to April and from October to December.
