Iwateyama SA [Up]

A lava flow spread over 1.5km wide and about 4km long at an elevation of about 1200m on the northeastern slope of Mount Iwate. A lava flow observation path is maintained around the area and can be seen up close. The craggy black rock is a cold and solidified magma that flowed out in the eruption of the Edo period. It speaks to the intensity of the eruption. It is well preserved and is also valuable academically, such as the record of the eruption time at that time remains. It is designated as a special natural monument of the country, so take out lava is prohibited, so let's be careful.

A direct sales center operated by female members. It sells fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers, and handmade processed goods produced by local farmers. There is also a popular dining area serving Matsuchan soba for 700 yen and Matsuchan ramen for 700 yen (open from 11:30 AM to 2 PM, closed during the New Year holidays).

Service area located at the foot of the majestic Mount Iwate. There is no dog park, but the entrance is a Japanese garden-style park with benches and tables, and a pet toilet is also installed, so it is recommended to spend a relaxing time with your pet dog. Among the restaurants, "Tonaka-cha pork and boiled set meal" and "Hachimantai mushroom Hittsumi set meal" are popular. This is the last SA to have a gas station on the Tohoku Expressway downhill, so don't forget to check the fuel. There is a nice baby corner for babies, as well as a walk-in gate that serves as a pedestrian entrance from a general road.
