Sabou Yasushi

Although it is named a café, it is known as a restaurant serving authentic river fish dishes. Most of the fish are caught by local river fishing enthusiasts. The sweetfish set meal with grilled sweetfish and sweet simmered sweetfish is 1800 yen. Due to limited availability, it may sometimes be out of stock. The amago set meal, known as the queen of mountain streams, is 1800 yen and is a seasonal menu available from March to October. Items like mehari sushi and grilled fish are available for takeout individually.

Thin-skinned manju (steamed buns) with 10 pieces for 1400 yen. These handmade buns, filled with lightly flavored red bean paste and wrapped in a batter containing yam, are perfect for souvenirs. You can also enjoy various meals such as Kumano beef grilled rice bowls and ancient road udon.

A dining place located south of National Route 168 from Kumano Hongu Taisha. Mehari sushi, a local dish passed down in the Kumano region, is a rice ball wrapped in takana pickles. It is said to have received its name due to its impressive size. The ones from this shop feature a yuzu-infused dashi soy sauce and are small and easy to eat. Comes with a soup, 3 pieces for 620 yen. Takeout is available for 5 pieces at 800 yen and 3 pieces at 480 yen. Perfect for a Kumano pilgrimage. Other options include a daily bento for 600 yen and sanma sushi for 780 yen.
