Roughly 230,000 balls of illuminations are lit in five areas of the central city of Asahikawa in a long run of about three months. In the dignified air of the severe winter, the glitter of the illuminations shining with snow is a beautiful sight like Asahikawa when it is frozen. Artistic irumi color the streets, from the Monument irumi in front of JR Asahikawa Station to the Icefall in the shopping park, the 7-Jo-green road light tunnel and the tower with the image of the pioneer. The festival is famous for its huge snow statue, which has twice been certified to the past Guinness record.
