Azuki Shinmei Festival
It is a Lunar New Year event to pray for an evil remedy and a good harvest that continues from the first year of Shobo (1644), and is a nationally designated important intangible folk cultural property. It currently takes place on February 11 at the Hama in front of the Tōshinjimyo-gū and Nishi-shimimyo-gū, which are located at the Azuki no Hama. There are many rituals dedicated, such as the "Shinmei Dance" and the "Longer Jōge". Among them, young people called "Nakebō" set up a sacred body "Shinmei" of about 20m in the early morning, and "Hayashita" at night, which sets fire on Shinmei and burns it with red, are impressive. Finally, the burning Shinmei is defeated, and the decorations and coins at the tip that have a benefit are taken away. Image courtesy:(C) Atsuki community
