During the Edo period, the master took care of the lodging and meals of the Fuji-shōshō devotees who attended Mount Fuji, and in his daily routine carried out missionary activities and prayers for the Mount Fuji faith. In the present-day Kamiyoshida district of Fujiyoshida, there were more than 80 houses of the master's house during its prime, it said. Of the approximately 20 surviving houses, the former Tokawa family house is open to the public. There is a main house built in Meiwa 5 (1768), and a remote parlor with a fine shrine (Kamitana). Inside, there is a display of materials from the Fuji scheme, such as tools and mountain climbing costumes, which have been used by the Togawa family. It is a nationally designated Important Cultural Property and a constituent asset of the World Heritage Site "Mount Fuji-Objects of Faith and Sources of Art".
