Yonemachi Hometown Hall

Constructed in 1900, Kushiro City's oldest wooden private house, the former Tamura residence, was preserved and opened to the public. In the building, the living style of the merchant house at that time was reproduced as it was. It displays living tools and photographs of the Kushiro town of the Meiji and Taisho periods.

Kushiro City Museum

A general museum with the best history and scale of Doto, whose theme is the nature of Kushiro and the history and culture nurtured by it. On the first floor, which introduces the earth and living things of Kushiro, the moor plants, as well as birds, mammals and insects, are on display. The "Kushiro no Umi", "Ito" and "Salamander" exhibitions were renewed in 2016, and they are featured in realistic replica, haku, and large-screen high-definition video. On the second floor, the Ayumi of Kushiro from prehistoric times to modern times, on the fourth floor, the Ainu culture, and also a diorama that recreates the Kushiro marsh, introducing the summer and winter red crane. The building, which features the image of a red-crowned crane with its wings spread, was based on a design by Mr. Tsuyoshi Moetsuna, a native of Kushiro.

Kushiro City Children's School Hall

Participatory experience-type facility where you can learn about the wonders of science while playing. There is a lot of space where you can move around and play freely, such as an indoor sand pit that is not affected by the weather, a sound tower full of sound, and a maze-like net jungle. Adults can enjoy being hooked by various experiments on the theme of water, light, vibration, wind, energy, etc. A planetarium with a beautiful starry sky and digital footage (the projection time confirms Kushiro City Children's School Hall homepage) is also popular. Rice Town Park

There is an observation deck overlooking the harbor and a monument to Takuboku Ishikawa. There are 25 monuments of Takuboku scattered around the area, and there is a map showing the location of this monument at the entrance of the park. Across the street stands the Yonemachi Hometown Hall, which introduces the culture of life.

How about Kushiro's souvenir, Puchipuchi Tamago, which has a gentle sweetness and mouth-melting taste that is made of fluffy busse dough with cream combined with custard and white chocolate. There are five types of milk, chocolates, kokura whips, cheese and husk berries, each 180 yen (plus tax).

Kushiro Moor Wildlife Conservation Center

Facility to conserve and conduct research on endangered wildlife such as the white-tailed owl and the white-tailed eagle. In addition to a commentary panel on one of its ecosystems, Kushiro Marsh, it is also possible to observe the protected birds on a TV monitor for 30 minutes.

Tancho Kushiro Airport

The airport, which serves as a base for sightseeing in Dodo, has six shops on the second floor with souvenirs and local specialties, snacks on the first floor, and western and Japanese restaurants on the third floor.

Coal Mine Exhibition Building

It is the only one in Hokkaido to show the history and the state of mining of Pacific coal mining under the seabed. Among them, a model mine shaft with a size of 410 square meters, a length of 80 meters, and a height of 3.4 meters, provided in the basement, can be seen. The appearance of the most up-and-coming coal-collecting machines and conveyors that were actually used is impressive. Take 30 minutes.

Tanketzuru Natural Park, Kushiro City

The red-crowned cranes are bred in an environment close to nature, and the cranes can be seen up close. Around May-July, you can also see how you grow chicks wrapped in brown hair. In the exhibition hall, the process of artificial hatching will be introduced in photographs, etc. The red crane is designated as a special natural monument of the country.

Walking path of Kushiro City Wetland Observation Deck

A promenade that starts from the Kushiro City Moor Observation Deck and can be around in about an hour. The barrier-free wooden road allows some use in wheelchairs. On the way there is a satellite observatory, from which you can overlook the moor. The surrounding area is also the habitat of rare creatures such as the white-tailed dragonfly and the Red salamander.
