Kokubunji Temple

The main temple houses a standing statue of a nationally designated important cultural property wooden Amitabha Buddha. The garden, which is designated as a national masterpiece, has beautiful flowers and azaleas of the temple in the spring and a maple tree chosen as one of the "Hundred of Autumn Leaves in Japan" in the autumn.

It is famous as a temple of water feeding. The main temple (Important Cultural Property), the Niōmen (Important Cultural Property) stand. There is also a standing statue of a wooden male god, a goddess (Important Cultural Property, undisclosed). Cherry blossoms are beautiful in spring and autumn leaves in autumn. The entrance is free on the day of water feed (March 2), but we will not enter the chancel.

The connection between Obama and Kyoto has been deep since ancient times, and there are still old temples and shrines and quaint towns in the city. Sea products played a part in the connection. The fish and shellfish that were flown to Obama were transported to the capital through the Wakasa Kaido, supporting the food culture of Kyoto. Among them, mackerel is the main product, and Wakasa Kaido is also commonly called "Mami Kaido". I put a salt on the mackerel caught in the morning, and when I carried it to Kyoto over the course of the day and night, it turned out to be well-prepared salt plum, and it was useful. The Maku Kaido Museum opened on March 8, 2020, and uses photos and panels to introduce the origin of Maku Kaido.
