A Multifunctional Complex Combining an Art Museum and a Theater

This impressive cultural hub in western Shimane Prefecture consists of two main facilities: the Shimane Prefectural Iwami Art Museum and the Shimane Prefectural Iwami Arts Theater.
It is a rare example in Japan of a complex that seamlessly integrates both an art museum and a performing arts venue under one roof.
The striking building is adorned with approximately 280,000 locally-produced Sekishū roof tiles, which cover both its walls and roof, creating a powerful architectural presence. The name "Grand Toit", meaning “big roof” in French, reflects the image of people gathering under the large, iconic red-tiled roof and has become a beloved nickname for the center.
The complex is arranged around a spacious central courtyard, and includes not only the museum and large/small performance halls, but also multipurpose galleries, a restaurant, and a museum shop. The halls are available for rental, making the facility a dynamic venue for everything from art exhibitions to concerts and stage performances.
