Okunakayama Plateau

A lava flow spread over 1.5km wide and about 4km long at an elevation of about 1200m on the northeastern slope of Mount Iwate. A lava flow observation path is maintained around the area and can be seen up close. The craggy black rock is a cold and solidified magma that flowed out in the eruption of the Edo period. It speaks to the intensity of the eruption. It is well preserved and is also valuable academically, such as the record of the eruption time at that time remains. It is designated as a special natural monument of the country, so take out lava is prohibited, so let's be careful.

A direct sales center operated by female members. It sells fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers, and handmade processed goods produced by local farmers. There is also a popular dining area serving Matsuchan soba for 700 yen and Matsuchan ramen for 700 yen (open from 11:30 AM to 2 PM, closed during the New Year holidays).

A service area that boasts a mountain line of Hachimantai that runs gently from the parking lot and a location that looks directly in front of Mount Iwate. "Morioka Jaja Noodles", one of the three largest noodles representing the noodle kingdom Iwate, and "Sanriku Mekabu Ramen", which has the scent of the tide, are popular. In addition to the freshly baked bread "Iwateyama Bakery", "Tannohata Milk Soft" from "Tōhoku Mami Mondokoro" is also recommended. In the shopping corner, there are not only specialty products from Iwate Prefecture, but also products from Aomori and Akita prefectures.
