Oita Marine Palace Aquarium "Uminamago"

Takasaki Mountain, at an elevation of 628m, is located near the boundary between Oita City and Beppu City. It began as a natural zoo in the mid-showa period to prevent damage from monkeys to local farms, where about 900 wild Japanese macaques live in a natural environment without fences. Two groups, Group B and Group C, take turns coming down to the monkey gathering area. For feeding, wheat and sweet potatoes are provided, and the sweet potato grabbing competition held twice a day is spectacular. You can see their lively expressions in their natural state up close. At the foot of the mountain, there is a monkey museum where you can learn about the ecology and history of the Takasaki monkeys, and a unique aquarium "Umitamago" with a tidal flow type swimming tank is also adjacent.

In addition to Seki Saba-don, 1400 yen, and Seki-Aji-don, 1300 yen, as well as Seki-Aji curry, Seki Saba curry, 600 yen each, and 550 yen of takoyaki made from specialty seaweed and chrome are popular. From the inside, you can overlook Beppu Bay, which is ideal for a break on the way to drive. A beautiful new observatory for the sunset was completed on April 1, 2021. A "lock for two people" can be installed.

An observatory and astronomy facility located at the tip of Saganoseki, known for "Seki Aji" and "Seki Saba," at the eastern edge of Oita City. In addition to a planetarium, it operates the largest telescope in the prefecture. During the day, visitors can observe the sun and first-magnitude stars. On nights when the facility is open, visitors can observe not only the moon and planets but also star clusters and nebulae that are not visible to the naked eye. The planetarium features the latest digital technology, capable of projecting images of the universe from the past and future, and in addition to regular program projections, astronomical shows such as solar and lunar eclipses are projected in real-time from the observatory's telescope, allowing for comfortable observation in a pleasant space.
