Mamatai Coast

As one of the eight main temples of Rokugo Manzan, it has 36 sacred sites and was the largest temple in Kunisaki. Masterpieces of nine wooden Buddha statues designated as Important Cultural Properties of the country are enshrined, evoking the prosperity of the past. The impressive sight of statues such as the Great Avidukta Myōō riding a white ox, the Fudō Myōō, and the Four Heavenly Kings lined up is truly remarkable.

It is an ancient temple of the Tendai sect, which is said to be the second year of Yōrai (718), and is the Suezera of Motoyama at Rokugo Manzan. Daido (national treasure) is the oldest wooden structure in Kyushu, built by Kaya in white wood from the late Heian period. A mural (important cultural property) depicting the paradise of the paradise, so it is impossible to tour in rainy weather, so be careful. It is one of the Amida-dou-dou along with Uji Byodo-in Fōnen-dou (Kyoto Prefecture) and Hiraizumi Chuson-ji Golden-dou (Iwate Prefecture).

When you enter from the foot of Mount Sawsan and climb the intidy stone steps with a total length of 90m, you will find the giant Fudomyo and Dainichi Nyorai's cliff-buddha on the precipice. Both are full-length figures of 7 to 8m, and the construction is estimated to be the end of Fujiwara. It is the largest and oldest stone Buddha in Japan. It has been designated a National Historic Site and an Important Cultural Property.
