加賀一向一揆の門徒衆たちの最後の砦となった鳥越城。本願寺8世蓮如の布教により結束した民衆が、かつてない団結力で領主へ抵抗した一向一揆は、長享2年(1488)に守護大名の富樫氏を打ち破り、「百姓の持ちたる国」を実現。天正10年(1582)に織田信長の軍勢に滅ぼされるまで、その自治は100年間も続いた。手取川・大日川を望む標高312mの城跡には、落城当時を物語る石垣や復元された本丸門・桝形門・中の丸門がある。

九谷陶芸村内にある美術館。能美市出身で、文化勲章も受章している陶芸家・故浅蔵五十吉の作品を展示している。五十吉は自然をテーマにした色絵を焼き続け、常に新しい作風にチャレンジしてきた作家。作品は全体の色遣いが昭和20年代は明るい黄色だったのが、やがて渋い黄色、緑、銀彩、平成5年(1993)からは白釉と年代によって変化していて興味深い。「全国公共建築百選」に選ばれた建物にも注目したい。
九谷陶芸村の中にある九谷焼の資料館。江戸時代から始まり、次々と斬新な作風が生まれていった九谷焼。その歴史と変遷が分かるように、作品を年代順に展示している。
地元農家のおばちゃんたちが考案し、すべて手作り。具材はごはんに包まれ、加賀丸いもをメインとした「丸いもつくね」や、くきたち菜と豚肉を甘辛く味付けした「ぶた菜」など、郷土色豊かな10種類が揃う。手軽さと用途を考え、敢えて冷凍販売。
上出長右衛門窯は創業135年、昔ながらの手仕事で日々の食器から茶陶まで、一点一線丹精込めて伝統を守り製造を続けている。彩り鮮やかな上絵付けと深い発色の染付け、何より丈夫で美しい生地が長右衛門窯の特徴だ。
