Introduction to the Main Cargo Handling Facilities at Tsuruga Port
Tsuruga Port is divided into four areas: the Mariyama North District and Mariyama South District in the “New Port,” and the Kanegasaki District and the Kawasaki・Shoei District in the “Main Port.” However, the main logistics functions are concentrated in the Mariyama area of the “New Port.”
In the Mariyama North District, ferry cargo and bulk cargo are mainly handled, and two multipurpose cranes are installed. One of these cranes was installed in November 2025 (Reiwa 7) and is currently undergoing operational testing, with service scheduled to begin in April 2026 (Reiwa 8).
In the Mariyama South District, unit load cargo such as containers and chassis is handled. Within the container terminal, one gantry crane and two rubber-tired gantry cranes are installed, enabling efficient cargo handling. In addition, one more gantry crane is scheduled to be added during fiscal year 2026 (Reiwa 8), establishing a two-crane system and strengthening the cargo handling structure.
In addition, the adjacent area is equipped with a CFS (Container Freight Station) for container stuffing and destuffing. Furthermore, a new privately operated warehouse was completed in December 2024 (Reiwa 6), enhancing the port’s warehousing capabilities.
