Located in the center of Fukui Prefecture, about 14km east-west, about 26km north-south, with an area of 251.48 square kilometers (as of January 1, 2025), the Tsuruga Peninsula and a 54km stretch of coastline that largely extends into Wakasa Bay, prevent Tsuruga Bay from winds and waves of the Sea of Japan, it forms a natural good port. In March 2024, the Hokuriku Shinkansen line was extended from Kanazawa to Tsuruga, making access from the Tokyo (Kanto) area even more convenient.

Chienamiki (Tsuruga Station West Exit)
On March 16, 2024, the Hokuriku Shinkansen Kanazawa-Tsuruga opened.
At the East Exit, a station building approximately 37 meters tall has been constructed to serve as the platform area for the Shinkansen and limited express trains.
On the west side of the station is Tsuruga POLT SQUARE "otta", a complex that includes a hotel, restaurants and retail shops, a child-rearing support center, an educational activity center, and parks and plazas.
Within "otta" is "Chienamiki", a publicly operated bookstore that houses over 30,000 books and serves as a hub for learning and community interaction for local residents.
