North Port

Before World War II, the site of "Kitamura", where regular vessels from Tokyo also entered the port. It is said that at that time there was this Kitamura in addition to the current center, Okimura. It was also close to East Port, which was a whaling base, and was home to more than 400 people, with offices, offices and offices, and a marine-product processing plant running through the houses. Now the site of Kitamura Elementary School, which was founded in 1887 (Meiji 20), and the stone jetty only slightly conveys the image of the past. Near the pier is a point of fishing and snorkeling, and if you go on the promenade leading west from here, you can get to the Osawa coast through the great jungle of Pothos. The pier site of the North Port ~ Osawa Coast is about a 40-minute walk each way.

Roth Memorial

A transfer and restoration of a sugar storage house built near the pier by islanders in the Taishō period. It is now used as a folk historical museum, and displays such stunning takono-leaf works from the Meiji period. "Roth" is the name of a stone in a building material, derived from Frederick Rolfs, a German immigrant who moved to this island in the late Edo period. He noted that the stone on Maojima was easy to process and resistant to heat, and popularized the method of its use to islanders. A stone mill made of loin stone is displayed in the front yard. It is a valuable structure designated as a tangible cultural property of the capital. We also carry out an octopus leaf-work experience (500 yen) (on the day of the event, inquiry is required).

Shagasaki Observation Deck

At the entrance of the port, it is perfect for whale watching during the winter-spring season. I want to go out with binoculars. The observation deck is provided with an explanation plate for whales. It is the point of sunset from autumn to spring.

Mt.

An elevation of 463m. The highest peak of the main island. The conical mountain is beautiful. The summit has a 360-degree view, overlooking a bluff that looks like an avalanche to the east into Oroku Bay. A tree name board display board is set up around the mountain trail, so you can walk while being familiar with the nature of the island. The route is well maintained but quite steep. Let's take your heart. There is no water on the way, so don't forget to bring plenty of drinks. It is sometimes found to be endemic to the main island species, which is also known. If you register with the tourist association in advance, the climber will be issued with a certificate. Although it was a circuit, a major slope collapse was confirmed in July of the first year of Reiwa (2019), and some traffic closures occurred. The ascent from the west route to reach the summit.

Ofuji

Fuji, the southern part of Japan, has the first sunrise in Japan on New Year's Day. Below you can see the coral blue sea around Nanzaki to the bottom, and it is a prospect that makes you want to take a deep breath. If you register with the tourist association in advance, the climber will be issued with a certificate.

Local Bakery

It's a small shop in a residential area, but it's also popular in the local area. There are many kinds of sweet bread, cooking bread, French bread, and the island's salt and fruit bread is delicious. You can also make a sandwich lunch box by appointment.

Bonin Coffee

Self-roasting beans grown on a plantation cut through a dense forest near Miyanohama. This is a bona fide Made in Tokyo coffee. Although it is rich, it has a refreshing flavor that is not heavy. Coffee has been grown in Ogasawara, which used to be an island of Western immigrants, and it was revived by the owner, Sasamoto, although it had been suspended for a short time due to the forced wartime migration. Every year they harvest about 100kg, but they sell out quickly. Sales are at the Ogasawara Fishing Equipment Center.

TARA Glass

Blown glass recycled from empty bottles is reputed. The naive beauty of the image of sea bubbles is perfect for Ogasawara souvenirs. It is hard to understand the way to the workshop nestled in the Yamakai of Omaguri, so contact first. There are also sales of glass works.

Takizawa Woodworking Grass Farm

The stunning woodcarving using the trees of the island, such as the precious Ogasawalagwa landfill, Tamana, is a gem that various dignitaries also bought. The whale relief is 80,000 yen, but if you actually see it, you will be convinced by its high quality.
