Oyama Observation Park

A park located on a ridge in the northwestern part of Mount Sōwanu, which rises behind the settlement. From the observation deck at an altitude of about 400m, you can see the island shadow of Hachijo Island in the north direction, and on the south side, you can see the whole area of the island, which is made up of a rare double volcano. The road around the park is a promenade that is easy to walk and is recommended for those who do not have the time or physical strength to walk the hiking course.

Totai Shrine

While the Osato Shrine at the top of Mount Sotoba is the protection of the island, it is here in the year 1757 (1757). A shrine that enshrines the god of the curse, so to speak, to quell the spirits of Asanosuke, who had committed suicide by killing seven islanders in his love-torn stomach. Although it now gathers the faith of the islanders as the god of the curb, the approach to climbing the mossy, steep cobblestone steps is overgrown with trees from both sides, and it has a mysterious atmosphere somewhere. The cobblestone steps are steep and slippery, so a route from the Oyama Observation Park is recommended to take the trip to the Todaisho Shrine.

Ikenosawa blowhole group

Hot geothermal steam can be seen spewing out from here and there on the northern slope of Maruyama, which is the inner-mountain. The hole where the steam spouts is called "Hin-gyu" in the island word. In the days when there was no electricity, islanders used Higuyu for heating, cooking, etc. Today, there is still a concrete steamer-like geothermal kettle (free of charge) near the Ikenosawa gas pit, where it is possible to make hot spring eggs, steamed potatoes, etc. Set before walking or bathing in the sauna, and when you come back, eat freshly steamed hot hot. However, the steam is quite hot, so be careful with burns.

Fureai no Yu

A town-run public bathhouse in the Hachijō-jima district. It is located in the mountains and you can not enjoy the view of the sea, but there are fewer tourists than other hot spring facilities, so it is recommended for those who want to enjoy a relaxing bath. The large-sized bathtub is made of a cypress, and although it is small, there is also an open-air bath. The spring is characterized by a sodium-chloride strong-salt spring, and the brown-brown hot water is salty when licked, making it hard to cool. In the break room, you can talk and exchange information with local people.

Round Ten

It produces and sells Hachijo's delicacy, Kusaya. The factory is now a store, and as soon as you step into the site, you will be wrapped in a unique scent. It is also said to be the king of kusaya. There are also pre-baked baked pieces with packs and 650 yen, so you can take them home without worrying about the smell. It is a good deal for cheap scratches for side dishes. You can taste rare items such as Kinme, Shiira, Magro, and Shark in every season. Also, ashitaba processed products are very popular.

Folk art

A folk art souvenir shop using an old private house that was set up more than 100 years ago. In the room where the tatami mats are laid, a wide range of items are displayed beautifully, from the store's original confectionery, island shochu, coral products, and miscellaneous goods, including a large selection of products from small items to cloth. Cat 540 yen ~ using a piece of Yellow Hachijo is popular at an affordable price.

Hachijo folk art

"Huang Hachi-jo Sabre", which has a cute kimono shape, and a souvenir shop that produces and sells traditional crafts, Honba Hō-Hachi-jo, representing Hachijo Island. There is also a hand-woven experience corner, and under the guidance of craftsmen, you can make original work (3300 yen per point) with your favorite pattern. By actually moving the loom, it is also possible to know how the delicate-handled yellow-hachi is woven. A rug of about 12cm square will be completed in about an hour. It will be crowded depending on the season, so I want to go out after making a reservation.

Yokomai Beach

Located almost directly below the Osaka Tunnel, you can watch the sunset on the horizontal line.

Undersoil Bathing

The largest artificial swimming beach on the island. It is close to the center of the island, so it is packed with a large number of bathers in the summer. There is also a shallow water spot where it is easy for children to swim, so families can enjoy swimming.

Hachijo Fuji Makino, Fureai Ranch

A ranch spread across the 6th to 7th stations of Hachijo Fuji at an altitude of 854m. There is a promenade in the green meadow, and you can see the scenery of Japanese black-haired beef and Jersey-bred parents and children leisurely, eating grass. There is an observation deck at the tip of the promenade, and you can enjoy a large panorama that overlooks the airport and the harbor from Sanno to Ogamago, including Mt. There is a trailhead to Hachijo Fuji about 300m from the ranch, and about an hour to the summit. You can see the unique double volcano with another volcano inside the crater.
