Teshikaga Town Kōtan Ainu Folk Museum

The exterior, designed by the architect, Mr. Tsuyō Mao, is eye-catching. From the birth of Lake Kussharo to the life of the Ainu people, it is divided into five themes, including the forest of Yukara, the earth of Kotan (meaning settlement in the Ainu language), and the people supporting Kotan.

Mogotoyama Observation Parking Park

An observation park in the middle of a small mountain at an altitude of 430m, rising in the northern part of Lake Kushroad, is a great point to see Lake Kushroad and its surroundings.

Lake Shalway

With a circumference of 57km, Lake Kususharo is the largest in Akan Mashu National Park and the second largest in Hokkaido after Lake Saroma. The etymology is Kutcharo, which means where the lake becomes a river and flows out in the Ainu language; the Wakoto Peninsula protrudes on the south bank, and Nakajima floats on the lake.

Wooden Craft Sha

A shop specializing in warm handmade original woodwork using wood from Hokkaido. In addition to tableware, flowers, and interiors that make use of the grain, there are also small items such as key chains. Made from Yachidamo wood and popular as a good luck shoe that comes true Wood carved climbing shoes 1050 yen ~, practical items such as pots and coffee cups, as well as mobile phone straps with small wood carvings are also well received. The sister store "Koominden Cat's Plate" in Suehiro-cho, Kushiro City also handles old folk goods and antiques.

Roadside Station Mashu Onsen

The staff will tell you the information of the Lake Mashu Observation Deck and the sightseeing spots according to the weather. In addition to local specialties and souvenirs, there are also snacks such as Cream Children's Story Aise 380 yen ~ Yaesoshika Burger 600 yen.

Asuka of Kawayu Onsen Town

It is located in the center of Kawayu Onsen town, which boasts an abundance of hot water. It has a size of about 20 people at a time, and a sulfur spring with a warm temperature of 40 to 43 degrees is flowing. In winter, you can also enjoy the snow light of "Diamond Dust in KAWAYU (usually held from early to late February)" while soaking in foot baths.

Confectionery Fengetsudo

An old-fashioned confectionery shop in the town of Kawafu Onsen. Handmade sweets are available from Japanese sweets to cakes. Popular is an angel cake 240 yen with plenty of cream in fluffy dough. Soba Boro 350 yen, aronia cake 350 yen and Mashu Busse 160 yen, which are made from local ingredients, are also well received. 250 yen of tanuki cake with fans nationwide is also very popular.

Folk art

A folk art general store that focuses on the works of woodcarving writers in Hokkaido. Inside the shop, there are a lot of works such as animal posits and watches. Among them, practical ones such as wooden strap 400 yen ~ and colorful original hand-carved round mirror 1500 yen ~ are popular.

Kawayu Eco Museum Center

Facility to introduce in detail the nature, history, and culture of the Kawayu, Mashu, and Kusharo areas of Akan Mashu National Park. In addition to the display of panels and three-dimensional models, you can enjoy a free guide walk (about 20 minutes) and nature craft experience.

Dapeng Memorial Hall

A memorial hall was established in honor of the feat of Meiyokozuna and Daihō [Taihō], who spent his boyhood in the town of Teshikaga and boasts 32 wins. In the hall of the facility, which mimics the Kokugi-kan, materials on sumo are displayed, including a photo panel of the name-beating, the winning amount and the wearing of the makeup. It takes 30 minutes.
