Bocke

Bokke is a word derived from the Ainu word pofke (simmering), a small mud volcano where mud and water are blown up by carbon dioxide gas in the ground, and it seems as if they are simmering. The temperature is as high as about 90 degrees, and bubbles are rising here and there in the gray mud. The place is a few minutes walk along the promenade beside the Lake Akan Eco Museum Center.

Taro Lake

It is located on the east side of Lake Akan, in a primeval forest. Yuakan-dake [Oakan only], which is attached to it as if it is sewn up large and small rocks.

Jiro Lake

A 10-minute walk along a mountain trail in the old-growth forest is Lake Jirō from Lake Taro, located between Lake Akan and the Akan River. There is about 1km from Takiguchi on the east side of Lake Akan to Jirō Lake, and there is a considerable steep slope along the way, so sneakers are needed. There is no space to sit down on the shore of the lake, just reflecting the surrounding forest on the surface like a mirror.

Lake Akan

It used to be one lake, Koakan Lake, along with Panketo and Penketo, but it is said to have been divided into the current three lakes due to the eruption of Mount Yuakan about 6000 years ago. Four islands, large and small, are scattered on the lake. Lake Akan hot spring springs on the southern shore, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in Hokkaido. Marimo (a special natural monument) grows, and is famous as the native lake of the mountain trout.

Kushiro Mountain Park Auto Campground

An auto campground in Sanhana Park, located west of Kushiro Marsh. Leisure facilities such as hot springs, a zoo, and horseback riding facilities are gathered in the garden, which is a sprawling site of 5.7 million square meters. The campsite is set in a quiet forest, away from such a bustling area, with substantial amenities. In addition to the zoned auto site and free tent site, there are also luxury cottages with rental house specifications, and there are various ways to use them. It is also close to tourist spots such as Kushiro Marsh, and is recommended as a base for sightseeing in Dodo.

Akan Nature Resting Village Encampment

An encampment adjacent to the "Roadside Station Akan Tanpami no Sato" along the common name, Marimo National Highway, which connects the city of Kushiro with Lake Akan. The surrounding area is a leisure zone dotted with activities such as park golf courses, international vine centers and hot spring bathing facilities. The tent site is an open lawn surrounded by ponds and woodlands, and the bungalows are built in the woods that are recessed from there. A large barbecue corner, which accommodates more than 300 people indoors and out, will also be provided next to the site, allowing you to spend the day in the sense of an amusement park.

Akan International Tree Center [Gurus]

A facility that studies the ecology of the Japanese cranes and releases the information on them. In addition to the Japanese cranes and cranes that can be seen all year round, there is a feeding station at the adjacent Japanese cranes observation center (open only from 8:30 to 16:30 in November to March, no time during the period). More than 100 birds are seen when there are many beautiful figures of Japanese cranes coming in search of food.

Road Station Akan Tantan no Sato

It boasts an area of Hokkaido's largest, and is a roadside station where various facilities enter. In addition to "Akan Marche", which sells specialty products, and "Restaurant Tsuru", where you can taste the dishes of local consumption, the information center "Crane's Terrace" was newly opened in November 2006. There are also Kushiro and Akan specialty goods sales corners in a warm-filled building using larch wood from Kushiro, and there are also original items that can only be purchased here. Other places include the "Akan International Crane Center [Gurus]", where you can observe the Japanese crane, a day-trip hot spring facility, lodging and campgrounds, a park golf course, and the Kushiro Moor Museum of Art.

Kinomatsu Sasaki Memorial Kushiro Moor Museum of Art

Until his death, Sasaki Eimatsu was a painter who loved the marsh and was familiar with the marsh. It was opened as the Kushiro Marsh Museum of Art in 2013 with the aim of getting people to touch with its achievements and people. Not only Kushiro marsh, but also the sparkle of the life of the plants and animals found in the wilderness was cut out, and the works of Eimatsu Sasaki, one by one, were lit up. It is a unique museum that creates a space that can be enjoyed by the world of paintings.

Crane Observation Center

Facilities adjacent to the Akan International Crane Center, which has been turned into a feeding area, attract as many as 150 cranes for food in winter.
