Matsuoka Shoten

A long-established souvenir shop with a store on the first floor of the Hakodate Twin Tower, which stands in front of Hakodate Station. Tomoe Obashi

The 1924m-long Tomoe Bridge, which runs through the Bay Area, connects the Waterfront District, which is also a tourist attraction, and the Linhai Road between Route 227. It is also recommended as a view spot with an emotional sea view such as Hakodate Port and Tsugaru Strait. The pedestrian-only climb is located next to the pier where Mashu Maru, which is about a three-minute walk from Hakodate Station, is moored, so it is good to enjoy a walk while being blown by the sea breeze.

Hakodate City Seikan Contact Ship Memorial Hall Mashu Maru

The Mashu Maru, which operated until the last day of the Seikan contact ship in 1988, was preserved and exhibited as an industrial heritage. In addition to having a tour of the wheelhouse and radio room, which remains as it was at that time, you can learn the history of the contact ship and the mechanics of the ship through panels, models and images.

Hakodate Morning Market

Hakodate Asa-ichi, which can also be said to be a specialty of Hakodate. Its roots were that farmers from neighboring towns and villages brought in vegetables and fruits in 1945 and started standing and selling in front of Hakodate Station. Since then, about 250 shops have been enlisted, selling seafood products such as crabs and salmon, as well as foods with a high degree of freshness unique to Hokkaido, such as direct sales from plantations. It may be out of stock after lunch, so it is best to visit early. From April 2018, its own certification system "Select Morning Market" started. It introduces the recommended products and unique services of each store's confidence in a special brand of Hakodate Asaichi.

The last monument of Hijikata

Toshizo Hijikata, who helped Isamu Kondo as deputy head of the Shinsengumi, and later went north while still fighting as a staff officer of the shogunate main war faction. He headed to Hakodate with a big dream of launching the Republic of Ezo, but on May 11 (now June 20) in the lunar calendar of 1869 (1869), the day when the Hakokan attack began, he was killed in action after falling to the shots of the new government forces. There are theories about the place where he was killed in the war, but a monument is set up in a corner of Wakamatsu Green Land Park, where he is said to have had a magnificent end.
