Kurume City Museum of Art

The museum stands in the vast gardens of the Ishibashi Cultural Center, which has a cultural hall and library. Under the theme of “time, people, and beauty,” the museum aims to provide many people with the pleasure of touching art through exhibitions and events linked to gardens. It is a policy to collect excellent art objects from all parts of Kyushu, mainly painters related to Kurume. Shop sells original products and books. The "Reijiro Sakamoto Old Atelier" in the park, which was relocated from Yame City, was released for a limited time in conjunction with the Ishibashi Cultural Center event.

Fukuoka Prefectural Youth Science Museum

Science theater with the theme of the earth. In the exhibition hall, you can learn about the principles, laws and nature of science while having fun. The Cosmo Theater (Planetarium) shows a realistic starry sky with 10 million stars. You can also enjoy full-dome digital programs with beautiful images and immersive sounds. Experiments and scientific work are also popular. It takes 2-3 hours. * Pre-appointment from the visit reservation system.

Kurume City Bird Center

It is one of the few bird-based zoos in the country. There are about 70 species of birds, mammals, and reptiles, including peafowl and flamingos. There is also a mini-amusement park in the park with a Ferris wheel and large playground equipment.

Kurume Centennial Park

The Kurume Azalea Festival, which is held from April 5 to May 5 every year, is one of Japan's three largest plant trees. There are about 120,000 azaleas in the park. During the period, azalea seedlings are exhibited and sold.

Kurume Castle Site

The site of the Kurume Castle is located in the Edo period, the residence of the Arima clan who reigned for about 250 years. There is the Shinoyama Shrine, which enshrines the clan's father, Yutaka Arima, and the stunning stone walls, inkers and wells that still remain are remembrance of history. In spring, the cherry blossoms are reflected in the moat, and in August, the "Suzumushi Festival", which has a cool tone, is also called. Strolling while feeling the colors of the four seasons is healing.

Hikokuro Takayama Tomb

Located in Teramachi, the Imperial Household Family from Jōshu (present-day Gunma Prefecture), which was active during the late Edo period. It is said to be the three eccentric people of Kansei, who traveled around the country and chanted for the Restoration, but despaired from the shogunate's consul. In Kansei 5 (1793), he decided himself at the Kurume doctor Mori Kazen's house. The remains were buried at Hensho-in in Teramachi. In the side stands the gourd grave of the sake lover Nishidojun, who died after him.

The birthplace of Shujiro Sakamoto

The birthplace of Shujiro Sakamoto, a master of modern Western painting born by Kurume, who is known for his signature work, "Kage Sōma". It is the only remaining samurai residence in Kurume and is also a designated cultural property of the city of Kurume. In restoring the birthplace, the old members that came out after being dismantled once were used as much as possible, and the building was rebuilt using traditional construction methods. The tea room where Shigeru Aoki was present also returns. Also on display are reproductions of the Fuma-e, which are said to have been painted by them.

Bairin Temple

The Bodaiji temple of the Kurume feudal lord Arima clan. It is an ancient temple of the Rinzai sect, and is known as one of Kyushu's best Shūyō dojo. There is a Karamon with a relief door at the front of the main hall, and there are five spirit houses built on the back by the clan Sohoji [Toyoji] and other successive lords. The Arimaya Reiya, the mausoleum architecture of a rare Daima family in the Kyushu region, is a nationally designated Important Cultural Property. It is also famous as a plum spot as the name of the temple, and is flanked by a garden of about 9500m with about 500 plum trees of 30 species. Plums such as Bengo plum and Tamagurugi bloom every year from the beginning of February to the beginning of March, and sweet scents drift around the area. It is crowded with visitors during the flowering period.

Natural hot water hot springs

A day-trip bathing facility where you can enjoy hot springs flowing from the source, located 1km south of the Chikugo River. It uses 100% hot springs with plenty of hot water for inner baths and open-air baths. There is also a restaurant to show the buzz of local visitors.
