Kaneyoshiyama Honten

A long-established store for two hundred and twenty years in Omi beef. In addition to various types of Omi beef such as sukiyaki, yakiniku, shabu-shabu, and steak, the croquettes of 75 yen unique to a butcher shop that uses plenty of Omi beef are popular in the local area. In addition, beef miso, roast beef, original processed goods, etc. are available, and can be shipped nationwide. The first floor of the main store is a butcher shop, and the second floor is a restaurant, Tiffany, which is directly managed by Kaneyoshi Yamamoto. The retro shop, which is a renovated 170-year-old town house, has a collection of handmade items from artists, and antiques that used to sleep in a private house and merchant house in Omi.

Omihachiman Water Town Tour

Vauliz Memorial

The memorial house of Mr. William Merrell Vowriz, known for his Mentholatum (now the Omi Brothers Mentarm). In 1905, he came to Japan for Christian evangelism. He was assigned to Omihachiman as an English teacher, and subsequently designed as many as 1600 buildings including churches, schools and hotels throughout the country. He was active in a wide range of fields such as medical care, education, and social business. The memorial house is a wooden two-story private residence of Mr. Vohrys, and inside it displays a favorite piano and materials. In addition to the large living room and reception room, there is also a Japanese-style room with tatami mats, which shows Mr.'s view of residential architecture. An internal tour requires a reservation. It takes 40 minutes.

Historical Folk Materials

In the late Edo period, it was a private house created as a home for the Morigoro Hyohei family, and it recreates the old merchant house. The interior is frugal but beautiful, and the store and merchant's sales tools are displayed, so you can learn about the Omi merchant's life.

Local Archives

The building was constructed as the Yawata Police Station in 1886, and was converted by the Voliz Architectural Office in 1953. It was renovated and reopened in April 2018, and a cafe space and co-working space were established. Inside the museum, valuable materials showing the history of Omihachiman, which developed as a commercial city, will be displayed. In addition to folk tools used by the people of Omi-Hachiman, you can see archaeological materials and dioramas of the festival.
