Gyodo

A gourd processing and sales shop that has been widely used as a container for sake and water since ancient times, and has been used as a lucky charm for the disease-free disaster. The small one for decoration is 400 yen ~. There is also a gourd painting experience (experience fee 500 yen, reservation required).

Aeon Mall Kusatsu

The entertainment mall is located at the base of Omi-Ohashi, which spans Lake Biwa. There are about 200 specialty shops, where you can enjoy shopping for meals and a movie theater and day-to-day hot springs during the day.

ROCK BAY GARDEN

Biwako Veggie Restaurant MITASU, a farmhouse restaurant attached to the roadside station Kusatsu, offers a lunch menu that focuses on vegetables grown on its own plantations and ingredients from Shiga Prefecture. Among them, the menu using A5 rank Omi beef and "Seiro steaming", which allows you to enjoy the original taste of local vegetables, are very popular. The inside of the store is a large space where a group of up to 106 people can be used to rent various events and group activities. There is also a terrace where you can eat with your pets and a pet lunch made with Shiga ingredients.

Kusatsu PA [down]

It features a selection of local Shiga's specialties, including "Miiji Riki-mochi" and "Uba gamochi". The exterior of the building expresses the beauty of the Japanese-style architecture due to the combination of vertical and horizontal. It is a parking area that has attracted attention as a base for access between the Meishin Expressway and the Shin Meishin Expressway. There is a food court where you can taste Omi beef, a shopping corner, as well as a 24-hour "7-Eleven", a shower station (shower/laundry) and a welcome gate where you can use the facilities from the general road, and a convenient PA where you can also refuel.

Roadside Station Kusatsu (Kansai Wide Area Union Direct Sales Office) (from Green Plaza)

Roadside station, just off the Karasumaru Peninsula, along the Lakeshore Road. There are restaurants and specialty shops where you can taste udon noodles made with lotus, and rice harvested in the city and seasonal vegetables are popular. Adjacent, there is also the Rock Bay Garden (telephone: 077-568-3078), which offers strawberry picking in spring and a sweet potato moat in autumn.

Ota Sake Brewery (Dozo)

Sake brewing started after the abolished clan by the Ota family, whose ancestors were the warlord, Michio Ota. On the second floor, you can also visit and sample the quaint sake brewery, including the display of materials from the Ota family who held key positions at Kusatsu-juku. Sake such as sake "Doi", as well as wine and shochu are also sold.

Kusatsu Clare Hall, Kusatsu City

The Cultural Hall, where Shiga Prefectural Art Creation Hall was transferred from Shiga Prefecture to Kusatsu City and opened as a base facility supporting cultural and artistic activities, provides a place to "work, present, view, touch and create" cultural arts.

Dozo

It exhibits materials from the Ota family, whose ancestors include Michio Ota, who built the Edo Castle. In addition to introducing the tools and processes of sake-brewing in a video, it also conducts tastings and sales of the local sake that it boasts.

Lake Biwa Museum

Under the theme of "Lake and Human", a museum of "experiential type" where you can experience all of Lake Biwa and learn while having fun with your family. It is the largest aquarium exhibition in Japan as an exhibition of freshwater creatures. The aerial promenade "Crown Trail" allows observation of insects and plants among the trees. The scenery towards Lake Biwa is also a must see. New and powerful exhibits such as fossils and skeletal specimens of creatures that were once on the shores of Lake Biwa, and the real life of Maruko Ship, which was the main character of the lake traffic, will be renewed and will be opened in July 2020.

Kusatsu-juku Kaido Exchange Hall

A museum where models and historical materials recreating the Kusatsu-juku are displayed, and the history of the highway and the post hall can be seen. There is also an experience corner where you can wear a travel dress bundle such as Dochugappa and a leg solder on the road, and an experience corner where you can ride a basket. Take 30 minutes.
