Heisei Shinzan Nature Center

The rafter plateau, about 2.5km northeast of Heisei Shinzan, was devastated by the pyroclastic flow that occurred between May and June of 1993. The Heisei Shinzan Nature Center is observing how plants lost by the pyroclastic flow are resurrected in a facility that opened on the rafter plateau in February 2003, ten years after the disaster caused by the pyroclastic flow. In the facility, exhibits on the surrounding flora and fauna and experience events are regularly held. The figure of Heisei Shinzan seen from the parking lot and the premises is exactly the most impressive.

Three houses are open free of charge: Yamamoto, Shinozuka and Toba residences.

Shimabara Castle

In the first year of Kanei (1624), the castle was completed by Shigemasa Matsukura, a feudal lord who was praised as a virtuoso of Tsukijo, over a period of about seven years. It was dismantled in the Meiji Restoration, but restored in 1964. Inside the five-piece castle tower, there is the Christian Historical Museum, which displays historical materials of the Shimahara Rebellion. There is also a memorial hall for the reconstruction of tourism, which provides a commentary on the history of the Fugendake eruption activity, and a memorial hall for the sculptor, Seibo Kitamura, on the site. It takes one hour in three buildings.

The colorful carp is released on the T-shaped waterway beside the private houses, and the gracefully swimming figure is full of wind.
