Japan's first private art museum with a focus on Western art, which was opened in 1930 by the second president of Kurashiki spinning, Sounsaburo Ohara. The collection contains about 3000 works, mainly Western masterpieces, which were commissioned by the painter Torajirō Kojima and collected, and exhibits about 1000 pieces at all times. All of them are world-class collections, including 17th-century El Greco, 19th-century impressionist masterpieces, and contemporary art. At present, you can see a wide variety of collections, not only Western art, but also Japanese Western paintings, works of writers currently active, works of writers involved in the folk movement, and Egyptian and Asian antiquities. It consists of a main building, a branch hall, a craft and a toyo hall, and Kojima Torajirō Memorial Hall, with a tour duration of two hours.
