Kiryu goes to Oka Amusement Park

Okawa Museum of Art

It is based on about 1200 works collected over 40 years by Eiji Okawa (1924-2008), a businessman from Kiryu. The collection of works, currently numbering about 7300 pieces, has a permanent display of Japanese and contemporary Western paintings, mainly by Shusuke Matsumoto and Hideo Noda. In Western painting, there are about 600 pieces, mainly from Picasso, Louau, and Ben Shahn, who represent the 20th century America. It covers a wide range of items, including about 100 Japanese paintings and textiles by Junichi Arai, a global textile planner.

Kiryu Textile Memorial Hall

This memorial building was constructed in 1934 (Showa 9) as the office of the Kiryu Textile Association. Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan (Cultural Affairs Agency) in 1997 (1997), Japan Heritage Site in 2016 (2016), and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Modernized Industrial Heritage in 2007. In the textile materials exhibition room on the second floor of the textile memorial hall, you can also watch videos on the history of Kiryu textiles and the manufacturing process, and also display the products of the traditional craft "Kiryu weaving", as well as old handloom machines and textile tools.
